Summer Internship is supposed to be the best time where we at IMT could have best industrial interface (apart from sleepy corporate lectures happening every now and then). I decided not to change the ritual and get the maximum out of it.
Ever since I tried to be out of Nagpur and God was very considerate to fulfill my wish this time.
I was to join The New Indian Express in Chennai.....
Everything about the internship was fantastic...... butttttt in Chennai???? Oh My God! This was the first time I had jitters to be out of home... I landed on 6th April, out in the scorching heat (or was it humidity) on the overstuffed roads and Tamil speaking coconut eaters...(u kno they have coconut in almost everything, I think even in their dreams!!).
Took an auto rickshaw from the station soon to be dropped at Annanagar(West) and indulging in a fight with autowala over the extra bucks he was asking (these guys are rascals, as many say)
Got some decent sa PG where Ajay and I dumped our bags and rested....We later went to Marina, u know the longest beach (but what makes it long, is it the miles u need to travel on sand to reach the water??)
We had a long day then and just hoped that remaining 59 will be better.
If somebody asks me wat is the staple food here...i wont answer Rice, instead i would say Banana. Yes, Banana!! u can find shoots of banana tree even with a cobbler, leave aside the panwala or the kirana store. Before coming I had manage to see only one variety of it, but they manage to grow 4-5 kinds....

One of the most popular things they have is unity or more formally union....even if they are wrong they will unite to shoo u off!! Isn't that amazing?.....and more abt unions, have u ever heard of laundry men's union? It exists here.
It felt as if u had been abandoned when everyone around u except u spoke Tamil....(y don't they learn the national language??)
Being in Chennai was as if u had been in Jakarta Islands between people who know English but wont speak just to make you feel DISTINGUISHED!!!!

hey.. well written experience !!
this shows the diversity prevalent in our nation at each 10 miles..
bt don be frustrated, i hope u must hv found something great about chennai too. Atleast, nw u r aware of 5 varities of banana. :)
If they don kno the national language, its nt their fault, its credit goes to state govt. I think govt. shd make hindi as a compulsory subject upto 8th std. to remove language barrier so that people like u ll nt feel like an alien in the land which is very much the part of their own nation.
phew...that was one helluva of fun read... a nice and grown up essay on "How i spent my summer vacation", more overtly considered as "how i spent my summer internship".....
whateva may be ur share of experiences....i am sure u must have loved this place like hell....
